The City of Mason City teamed up with local builders to construct an overpass to aid in better traffic flow on the north side of town. For years, railroad traffic has created access problems for Mason City motorists trying to get from one part of town to another. These traffic problems were solved on August 26 when the overpass was opened. The bridge was built using a new bulb tee girder section developed by Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa bridge girder producers. This project was one of the first uses of this section producing an aesthetically pleasing structure. The girder used was 131-4long and 54 tall.
